Data and voice communication have become essential in today’s business environment, thus speed and reliability are a must.
PABX equipment has become more compact and hence more susceptible to interferences from lightening and surges.
Electricity suppliers have no control over what loads are connected to the grids, thus transients result. Surges or spikes are by-products of the electrical system. If nothing is done to protect the electrical equipment, the life span of this equipment can be shortened severely.
An independent survey was performed on 36 PABX’s. After correct protection was installed, there was a drastic decrease in reported faults on the PABX’s.
The addition of the protection allowed for greater reliability of the equipment and lower mainetance costs.
Information drawn from the survey showed that a large percentage of the faults reported were a result of soft faults caused by transients.
Once the correct protection was applied to the systems, the faults were eliminated.
